Ella Fitzgerald is said to have made a crystal chandelier shatter with her voice. this is a demonstration of:?

December 22nd, 2010 by admin | Posted under White Chandelier.

A. resonance
B. sound refraction
C. an echo
D. beats

This 'urban myth' has been attributed to many people, including Dame Nelly Melba, the Australian Opera singer, and various jazz singers including, of course the great Ella Fitzgerald.

Whether or not the event actually occurred is not really important, of course, but had it occurred it would have been because of the resonance of the sound wave created by the singer.

Laboratory tests have proved that sound waves can shatter crystal, so it IS possible, but no-one can definitively say where or when this shattering event ever took place. There is plenty of 'hindsight' reporting of the event, whoever it was attributed to, but the event was, apparently never reported at the time, so it is doubtful it ever really occurred.
